Are you absolutely sure that it has a high density floppy? Is this
floppy one of the Chinon drives supplied as OEM by C= or one from
another source (such as the one from Power Computing)?

Has the drive ever worked as a HD floppy drive? It is possible that
the HD floppy recognition hardware within the drive has failed.

If the drive is a Chinon FZ-357A, then it should be automatically
recognizing HD floppies. If it is one of the after market drives, it
probably requires some sort of driver file, possibly installed in
expansion, though the disk/manual that should have come with the drive
in that case would have complete installation instructions in it.

There is nowhere within the OS to configure a HD drive for Amiga
modes. Special HD DOSDrivers are necessary for CrossDOS and other
disk filesystems (MFS, SFS, PFS, diskspare, etc) however.

OTOH, make sure that there is *not* a driver for DF0 in
DEVS:DOSDrivers/ and that the internal HD floppy is installed as DF0,
not DF1. The Amiga hardware autorecognizes a single HD floppy drive
installed as DF0. You didn't mention having checked the jumper(s) on
the back of the drive. It should be set for DS0.

And now for the stupid question: Are you using HD floppy disks when
trying to use it in HD mode? Those are the ones with the extra hole
on the corner opposite the write protect tab.

I hope that something here helps...
